The news this week is short and simple, but still exciting.

Wave 4 Full Release

Alongside the release of the Nintendo Switch, we saw the full release of Wave 4. This means that the Grave Clobber and Pain-Yatta Single Packs (along with the Easter variants) are now available to be sold from all retailers.

Not all retailers have a large amount of stock at this point, but they will be coming.

Wave 4 Creation Crystals

We don't have all the details on the Wave 4 Crystals at this point, but we do know that you can find two different Dark Creation Crystal Single Packs now.

The Dark Pyramid and the Dark Reactor Creation Crystals are now available.

The Dark Pyramid we've seen before in the 8-Pack as well as Triple Pack #4, but the Dark Reactor is completely new.

The majority of reports I've been getting are from Target, but I have heard of a few being found at Best Buy and TRU.

Creator App Update

This week we also got an update for the Creator App.

The new parts have been added to the app so you can get a better look at what you'll be able to unlock in the console game eventually.

The update is available for both iOS and Androis versions of the app.

Next Release

We are actually expecting one more release this week.

Sunday, March 12th is the date that they officially announced as the release date for the Cursed Tiki Temple Adventure Pack.

We haven't heard much about this pack recently, but I'm still holding out hope that it will release as scheduled. We will be searching intently for any signs of this pack throughout the week.

Stay tuned.

Anyone pick up Imaginators for the Switch yet?

    • Froyop 12

I’ve played it at a friend’s house and it is really cool. Exactly the same and cool graphics.

      • Enigma

        So graphics are better?

        • Froyop 12

Yes Graphic are more xbox one type rather than wii u type that i’m used too.

          • Enigma

Hmm, maybe I should consider getting Imaginators for the Switch when the price drops. Mobile-console Skylanders plus better graphics than the Wii U? No new, expensive game this year? $30 price cut around the holidays? I’m sold!

    • JimyMahr

Everyone wants the Switch for Zelda, I want it for Skylanders. Honestly, I usually played the 3ds versions more than the console versions because of the ease of figure swapping and look forward to that on the Switch. Just a shame you can’t get all the free money from registering traps though 😢.

      • Enigma

I actually am not that excited for Zelda (tbh I don’t have it or the Switch yet) only because I have sunk 220+ hours into Xenoblade Chronicles X and have no desire to do so in another open-world game until Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Don’t get me wrong, open-world Zelda is very exciting, and I understand the appeal for long-time fans, but I have never actually played a Zelda game. I’m more excited for portable Mario Kart 8 and Imaginators, two great console games I can’t wait to bring on trips. Also looking forward to Splatoon 2, and ARMS, even if the roster looks a bit narrow.

In the future, though, I will prefer to play any new Skylanders game on a console that requires a portal, since I do not like the idea of my figures becoming moot once I scan them. Picking figures off my shelf brings them to life, and digital save data completely eradicates that appeal.

        • JimyMahr

          😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
Never played a Zelda game?! Wow. Now, I’m not judging, it’s just that Zelda is so iconic and has been around so long. I’m not going to lie, I haven’t played them all but not even one is pretty amazing.

As for open world, I fully understand that, but to be honest, I’m going to get Zelda AND Skyrim despite the fact I have put about a million hours into Skyrim on PC.

I like what you say about taking certain titles on the road and that is what people are forgetting about Switch. It can’t compete with the PS4 and XB1 because it isn’t a home console you take on the go, its a Game Boy that you can plug into your TV without a garbage Super Game Boy or such.

As for the figures being moot, it never will be for me either, but if I can take Skylanders to go I’ll do it, but that is all Skylanders on Switch will be, I have Wii U and PS4 Skylanders for home.

          • Stayforeverskylanders

The Legend of Zelda was the second video game I ever played (Super Mario Bros was the first). Some of the later versions of Zelda did get a little bit too confusing, like getting lost for hours, so I can see how some might find them not as desirable as other games. JimyMahr always entertaining us with those emojis. 😸🤹🏻‍♂️🎉

    • Stayforeverskylanders

The Imaginators for WiiU is fine for now. As far as the Switch is concerned I am waiting to see what other games and how many come out because that will determine if I buy it.

    • Erich

I have the switch but not imaginators yet. I must say, the new Zelda game might be the best game I’ve ever played. I do not say that lightly. I’ve been playing games for 30 years now.

      • Stayforeverskylanders

I have my doubts after WiiU only had one Zelda game which played more like Dynasty Warriors (and I do love Dynasty Warriors but I was hoping for another Zelda that was more classic). If you say it is the best game you have ever played I’d better get a copy and get the Switch!!!!! 🎮

        • Erich

I have played almost every Zelda game since the very first. Ocarina of time was my favorite. This is a direct sequel to that. Same Link. Same land just 100 years in the future. That isn’t a spoiler. You learn it 10 minutes into the game.

I have almost every game and this might be better than ocarina of time. I won’t know until it’s finished.

          • Enigma

I have actually read a review that, contrary to popular belief, stated that BotW is not that good of a game. I have also seen many people not happy with it. For instance, the horse controls seem a bit disappointing.

But on a deeper level, I’ve read bosses aren’t challenging anymore, the story is a joke, quests aren’t sideplot-driven, and the open world is barren (this I have seen in gameplay videos).

Now, as a Xenoblade X fan, I am accustomed to some of these criticisms, however all these negative comments are turning me away from the game. I was looking for a more laid-back Xenoblade, but now I am not sure. My biggest concern is the lack of interaction within the world. I can’t imagine just running around looking for treasure, with the rare Bokoblin standing about.

Erich, as someone who has played the game, do any of these things bother you?

(Sorry for straying way off of Skylanders, Matt…)

          • Erich

Ok. The land is not barren at all. If you go a minute or two in any direction you will hit something to explore. For example: I was off yesterday and I just hit the first quest from Kokori forest and it was simply go to a different location to figure out how to build a weapon. I didn’t go. I explored and looked for shrines. 8 hours later I hadn’t completed the quest. I was miles away on an island! I loved every moment. A have not felt bored or burdened at all and I walk everywhere!

Horse controls are pretty much the same as ocarina of time. But that’s understandable. Horses run straight SUPER well. But they don’t turn on a dime. So I am ok with it.

Bosses. Here’s the good/bad with open worlds. If you go in the right direction, you will be more powerful to fight bosses thus rendering them “easy”. But I ran into a guardian and he destroyed me. I am not ready yet.

The story is the same from every single Zelda game ever. Gannon is a bad guy and Zelda needs your help. Only you can save the world. That’s it. But if you aren’t ok with that, you don’t like Zelda games.

It really is primarily an explore and solve puzzles games. Puzzle that are not easy, by the way. Which I love. So it is a go-at-your-own pace game. It’s so perfectly balanced.

It’s like a mix of Legends of Zelda, the sims, and minecraft all rolled into one.

All articles I’ve read had tough times finding any flaws. I’ve yet to see someone just not like it. Maybe they say that to get clicks.

Do with this what you will. My humble opinion is it is an amazing game.

  • Zym

Since we only move forward: repost from last thread: Is there a way to tell which selfie spots and rail grind challenges one has completed? The game seem to know, but doesn’t want to share the knowledge with me (as far as I know).

    • VideoGamer1212

In some of the levels, there is an objective for completing a grind rail

      • Zym

Yup, plus it’s a bonus goal too, something like completing 8 grind challenges. So far, I won’t move on from a level unless I finish the grind challenges. The Elven Forest middle grind was the evil one since one could not bail if they missed one so the entire level needed to be restarted.

    • JimyMahr

It’s a secret. What I do, and it is purely a pain, is just restart the level if I fail the grind challenge. I like the gring challenges in theory, but in practice, the camera just doesn’t want to work properly on some of them, so instead of seeing you need to jump to the next beam at a certain point, you instead need to know “when the camera stops spinning in a circle, jump.”

As for the selfie spots, is that a thing? Seriously. Is it an achievement on PS4 or something because from what I’ve seen, aside from framing in the Academy, I didn’t know it mattered which ones you used.

‪After running around Cape MO, I find these in my little town’s Target in IL conveniently during a week when they are running a sale. ‬TRU still doesn’t have anything new. Boo!

    • Josh Rosenkranz

Wow. I hope I find something like that.

      • Jacky

Me too!!! I have not seen those crystals yet

    • Jacky

You should get them all !!!! 🙂 lol

      • Keri Marie Hartmann

I got three because Target is running a 3 for 2 sale on video game items and they had nothing else new except pain yatta but we already have him.

        • Jacky

          You are mega lucky!!!

    • mindee

I have a spare dark pyramid still in the sealed box. I haven’t had any luck finding the dark reactor here in town. Would you be willing to trade a reactor for my pyramid if I can’t find it here? I’m still out and about trying to find one. 🙁

      • Keri Marie Hartmann

Sorry I have four kids and they already claimed the three reactors I got and the fourth child got a pyramid that was mine. I still have the rune from the dark addition for myself. Never an issue in this house having doubles or triples of one crystal. Why I’m always combing or waiting for deals. My daughters don’t play much with the youngest being four but they still like creating their own figures.

        • mindee

No worries. After my 10th store over the weekend, I finally found one. My duplicates go to my husband for when we play together (it’s just like having a really big kid. Lol!) 😉

  • Josh Rosenkranz

Only 5 more days, and still no packaging images. Where are they?

    • Zym

Maybe it’s just the single pack and they’ll “staple” a life crystal and mystery chest to it.

  • Probably will be the end of the month before I see any where I live. And be about May by the time I get them.

  • MrMinderbinder

I’m considering getting the variants (I’ve stayed away from variant characters in previous Skylanders games). However, if variants in Imaginators keep raising the level cap, maybe they’re worth it. Does anybody know if variants will raise the cap an additional level? In other words, would King Pen and Dark King Pen, for example, each add one level to the cap? Or would they just combine for one extra total level?

    Another way of putting it… is the level cap 46 (15 + 31 Sensei/Villains)? Or will it be 60 (46 + 14 variants)? Or will it be 65 (60 + 5 Chase Variants)?

EDIT: Oh, also, in Utah, TRU and Best Buy do not have Dark Crystals, but Target does. Score one more for Target.

    • Erich

In game variants do raise the cap. Chase variants do not.

      • MrMinderbinder

So, a follow-up question. All variants? Or just the ones with unique videos? I’ve seen in game that the Dark variants (King Pen, Golden Queen, Wolfgang) have unique Sensei Shrine videos, prompting the idea that they’re unique, and therefore add to the level cap. However, I don’t think that other variants (Candy-Coated Chopscotch, Jingle Bell Chompy Mage, etc.) have these unique videos. Does anybody know (for certain) whether these holiday-themed variants do add to the Imaginator level cap?

        • VideoGamer1212

All in-game variants (including legendary, dark, mystical, holiday, solar flare, and steel plated) add to the Imaginator level cap.

          • Jacky

My imaginators can now reached level 52, and the only in game variant I am still missing is steel plated Hood Sickle.

          • MrMinderbinder

Huh. With what is currently available, you should have:
Base 15 + 27 Sensei + 13 Variants = 55, which means that you’re missing three characters. Aside from Steel-Plated Hood Sickle, I’m guessing you’re missing Chompy Mage and… one other?

          • mindee

*shakes a fist at the elusive regular Chompy Mage* Right now he’s the only one I’m missing that is “available.” Sitting at 54 right now and excited to see Wild Storm coming out soon. He looks like he will be awesome!

          • Jacky

No, I have regular Chompy Mage and the Jingle Bell. I bought the villain pack on amazon, so I got Chompy Mage since October. Are you counting Rock Candy Pain Yatta, Pink Barbella, …? Those I will never get them, those are very rare and in my TRU I have never seen something like that. 🙂

          • MrMinderbinder

Don’t know what to tell you – Imaginators start at Level 15. There are 27 Stardard Senseis/Villains released, and there are 13 Standard Variants currently released (not counting the oddly colored Chase Variants). If you have them all (except for SPHS), your Imaginators should be at Level 54.

      • Po’Boy Joe

I thought I just saw the barbella variant I found last week run the “all imaginators can now reach” counter. Although I don’t keep track of what number it is so I guess it could have shown the counter and gone to the same number it was?

        • Erich

Send me the varaint and I’ll check on my console………

          • Erich

            (Shifty eyes)

  • mindee

Thanks for the tip about Target now having the new stuff. Dropped by mine tonight and almost had a heart attack when my husband found a Rock Candy Pain-Yatta sitting there on the rack. Picked him and two of the same dark crystals up in the sale since they only had the one kind. Hoping to do an exchange later on for the other dark crystal. This is the first time ever in all the years I have been playing to actually find a chase variant. I was starting to think they didn’t really exist! 😀 https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/af10caa0a4ef73a0c01e3301b90fb2ce39ea99d6d5558fbccb1459101263a4ec.jpg

    • JimyMahr

Congrats and welcome to the Chase Variant Club!

      • mindee

Thanks! 🙂 He has a nice comfy spot on my shelf with regular Thrillipede; I just don’t have the heart to open either character. Lol.

        • Zym

Yeah, we opened regular Thrillipede the day we got him. No hard to find chase for us yet. I did see the Dark Pyramid at Target but no Reactor so I just left the Pyramid behind. Good catch with Rock Candy, if I find a chase, that would definitely be the one I’d want.

          • mindee

I’m hoping the reactor one will pop up somewhere soon. Also hoping the magic claw will be a single pack. I would also really love to find the clear Starcast. He’s one of my favorite characters and was the first one I bought for Imaginators. I should open Thrillipede, but I kinda skipped Trap Team and SuperChargers because I was still working on 100% completion of SwapForce and then Imaginators came out. Gotta say, I really like Imaginators and am doing a nightmare run now that I have beaten it on regular difficulty. Hoping the other characters are released soon… Level 54 imaginators still struggle a little in certain places!

          • Zym

Yea, I’m playing super slow, blew through easy, deleted the account and started nightmare. I’m down about 6 levels since I won’t move on until I think I’m at 100% for that level. My Knight seems unstoppable at 55 with the battle class crazy move. Give a little life to make your character super strong for a few seconds is awesome. I really want to print my Knight….maybe someday. I also tried to make an Invader Zim, but it was a fail.

    • Jacky

      Great, it looks awesome.

  • dgl14

I just hope that in wave 5 the dark rune and the magic claw will be in single packs

    • MrMinderbinder

I hear that. I got Dark Rune in the Dark Edition Starter, but I’m still short Magic Claw.

I’m up to 25 unique crystals – still missing Earth Rune, Fire Angel, Tech Pyramid, Light Angel, Air Acorn, and Magic Claw.

      • mindee

I’m in almost the exact same situation as you except for also needing the dark reactor and life rocket. Assuming you have it – where did you find the life rocket one, I didn’t think it was out yet?

        • Keri Marie Hartmann

TRU has their crystals for $6.19 right now. Looks like they’re cleaning out their stock to make room. They sent me two life rockets so far, no other mold for life. All my shipments came out of OH.

          • mindee

Hmm. I might have to try that. I have a TRU a few minutes away from my house, but they don’t always have a lot of items out on the shelf. Sometimes it works out since I get first dibbs on a newly opened box.

        • Zym

I got mine at TRU, at least wait until Sunday to order it since it might just come with the Wild Storm Adventure Pack.

          • mindee

Kinda what I was thinking. Starting to wonder if it is actually coming out on Sunday for real since we haven’t seen any packaging leaks or anything yet.

        • MrMinderbinder

Life Rocket is a standard TRU release. They’re all over the place. Life Rune is the elusive one (released with the Dark Starter).

      • Zym

I’d be jealous if you weren’t missing those since they haven’t been released yet. (except magic claw of course).
