Ever since the Nintendo Direct last week, just before E3, there has been a lot of confusion in the Skylands.

Most of this confusion revolves around the new Skymiibo (Skylanders + amiibo) figures and the associated Starter Packs.

Today I hope that I can answer some of your questions and straighten it all out for you.

Standard Starter Pack

The Standard Starter Pack will be available for:

Skylanders SuperChargers Standard Starter Pack

The Standard Starter Pack will include:

To the best of my knowledge this pack will not be made available for the three Nintendo systems because they have the exclusive Starter Packs outlined below.

Wii U Starter Pack

The Wii U Starter Pack will come with the standard game, but it will have one exclusive character and one exclusive vehicle.

The Wii U Starter Pack will include:

The Wii U Starter Pack is the only place you will be able to get Turbo Charge Donkey Kong and his Barrel Blaster. These figures will not be released separately.

UPDATE: Turbo Charge Donkey Kong and his Barrel Blaster are also available in a Combo Pack.

Wii and 3DS Starter Pack

If you've followed Skylanders for any number of years, you probably know that the 3DS version of Skylanders has always differed from the standard game.

This is mostly due to the fact that the 3DS is not capable of running the standard version of the game. This year, Activision has decided that the Wii has run its course and demoted it to the level of the 3DS.

So this year the Wii and 3DS will come with the same game which actually has the alternate title of Skylanders SuperChargers Racing.

In addition to the alternate game, these packs will come with one exclusive character and one exclusive vehicle.

The Wii and 3DS Starter Pack will include:

The Wii and 3DS Starter Packs are the only place you will be able to get Hammer Slam Bowser and his Clown Cruiser. These figures will not be released separately.

UPDATE: Hammer Slam Bowser and his Clown Cruiser are also available in a Combo Pack.

Will Donkey Kong, Bowser, and their Vehicles Be Playable on Other Systems?

No.

To make it official, Lou Studdert (Production Coodinator on Trap Team and Associate Producer on SuperChargers) was kind enough to give me a direct answer.

This is why the figures are only being packaged with the Nintendo Starter Packs.

The last thing they want is a unwitting Xbox owner to pick up a Single Pack Bowser only to find out that they can't use it on their system.

So they're doing all that they can to keep the exclusive Nintendo figures with Nintendo console owners.

What We Don't Know

We don't know if DK and Bowser (and their vehicles) are included in the 20 Skylanders and 20 Vehicles they've been advertising or if they are additional figures.

UPDATE: Donkey Kong and Bowser are included in the 20. There are only 18 new playable characters on non-Nintendo consoles.
We don't know if the Wii U Starter Pack will be available without the exclusive figures.

UPDATE: There is no alternate Starter Pack.
We don't know if Spitfire and Hot Streak will be released in Single Packs.

UPDATE: While this has not been confirmed yet, it seems likely that we will see Single Packs eventually as shown in this ad.
We don't know if there will be an ultimate collector's bundle that includes all the exclusive Nintendo figures.

UPDATE: To date no special Nintendo edition has been announced.
We don't know if there will be a Dark Edition Starter Pack.

UPDATE: The Dark Edition has been confirmed. You can read more about your options here.
We don't know what Skylanders SuperChargers Racing is like.

How Can I Get All the Figures?

With the information we currently have there is really only one sure-fire way to get them all. You would need to pre-order:

As I talked about briefly above, there is a chance of a new bundle or some Single Packs of Spitfire and Hot Streak, but none of that is guaranteed right now.

You know these figures will show up individually on eBay and Amazon being sold by third-parties, but at what price?

If you don't have the budget for multiple Starter Packs right now, consider picking up one with the exclusive figures now and wait for a good Black Friday or holiday sale to pick up the rest. It's a little risky, but Starter Packs typically seem to be in good supply.

Wrap Up

I know there are still questions to be answered, but hopefully I have cleared up at least some of the confusion.

As soon as we get concrete information about any of the above topics, you can be sure I will be reporting on it.

In the meantime, get your pre-orders in and join us on Facebook for all the fastest updates.
